Yeah, I can only imagine that people are gonna get pretty bored pretty quick. However, I thought something was wrong with my phone. "Why do I have a hundred emails I never get a hundred emails is my span filter broken will there be upsetting porn ads in there oh my God"

Humble brag.

The outrage is stemming from several areas.

-Some of the nudes (see: MEW's for example) had been deleted for several years

-This was a pretty large leak (like, about 100 female celebrities at last count)

-They exploited an Apple iCloud weakness to hack into the victims' phones and electronics; in short, they REALLY had to put in creepy amounts of effort to get at them

-The MarySue has a good collection of MEW's responses, which sum up a lot of what's fucked with this

-Responses like this, which make me kind of want to crawl out of my skin

In lighter news, British people, I just found out there is Cadbury's drinking chocolate. Why have you not told me about this before now?

People don't understand how this happened. You need to stop looking at it like a single event. It's always happening. There are people that do this and trade or sell to each other for years to build up a collection. You can even hire them to go after specific cloud accounts. They won't catch the hacker, only the leaker. The same place that these went public, 4Chan, turned on the guy and made his personal info public also. The guy just bought them from other sources and wanted to sell them. When other people who also had them saw that, they started leaking them also. There is a whole subculture of these fucks.

As for the backlash from assholes towards the actual victims, that's unfortunately how a lot of men treat women. It's like when a guy begs a girl to sleep with him, and when she does he calls her a slut and tells everyone about it. It's the usual double standard.

It's actually been semi-proven at this point that it couldn't have been an iCloud hack, at least not exclusively, since the photos had to have come from multiple other sites as well, like Google Drive. The idea that it was an iCloud leak seems to have sprung up from nowhere and since no one has any better ideas as to how so many people could have been hacked at once, everyone's just going with that explanation.

In reality, while iCloud accounts may have been hacked into (and probably were), Google and Microsoft accounts were also breached. So realistically, what happened was that someone hacked a ton of peoples' accounts and devices across multiple services over a long, long period of time, and they're only now just coming out in a gigantic pile.

And in many cases it wasn't even the celebrities' phones or accounts themselves that were hacked, but the phones/accounts of friends and family as well. It's more than a little bit messed up.
