This is a sales chart, printed in Amazing Heroes, from June 1984. (It's one of several competing lists, back in the pre-Diamond monopoly days, where things were figured out as best as they could based on figures from a number of distributors.) This is wild. The sales are an average of what sold per LCS - i.e., the average shop sold 153 copies of Uncanny X-Men in that one location that month. (My LCS might not sell 153 copies of X-Men all by itself all year nowadays.)

The Bat books were middling sellers at best before the Burton movie. Batman and the Outsiders was popular (as popular as DC books generally got, at any rate) with the Mike W. Barr/Jim Aparo team, but they could barely give Batman or Detective away.
