Guest
I'd actually love to see a 30's era Superman movie.
KnightWing
I've been following the Superman case really closely since it started. This kind of thing is getting blown way out of proportion.
MaxPower
This is never going to happen. It's all posturing by the lawyers to get a fatter cheque.
KnightWing
If worse comes to worse, DC/WB will settle and make arrangements with the Siegel and Shuster families for continued use of the character. At this point, DC's just trying to minimize the amount of money they'll lose by continuing to use the character.
dc20willsave
They're casting for extras in Chicago.
JackFetch
Russell Crowe will play Superman's biological father Jor-El in Zack Snyder's Man of Steel, reports Variety. He will be joining Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Kevin Costner, Michael Shannon and Antje Traue in the new film, coming to theaters in late 2012. Christopher Nolan, Charles Roven, Emma Thomas and Deborah Snyder are producing the anticipated film, which is expected to start shooting next month. http://www.superherohype.com/news/articles/167583-russell-crowe-to-play-jor-el-in-man-of-steel

Dread
I like Crowe for Jor-El. Besides, why anyone would look at that sideways when we have this to look forward to: Kneel before Zod!
KnightWing
Crowe as Jor-El sounds awesome to me.
MaxPower
EXCLUSIVE: Warner Bros and Zack Snyder are in talks with Julia Ormond to play Superman's Kryptonian mother, Lara Lor-Van, in Man of Steel. I expect the deal to make shortly. Russell Crowe has been offered the role of Jor-El, the father of Superman (Henry Cavill). Kevin Costner and Diane Lane were previously set to play Clark Kent's Earthbound parents. This comes after Ormond completed the role of Vivian Leigh in the Simon Curtis-directed My Week With Marilyn, which stars Michelle Williams, Emma Watson, Dominic Cooper and Kenneth Branagh. Ormond's repped by Gersh and Artists Independent. Source She did some great work early in her career, but this seems an odd choice.
slothian
Any more so than Rene Russo as Thor's mother? It's unlikely to be a huge part in the movie and she has enough name value to be recognised without the clout/career to cost the production too much. Sounds fine to me. KnightWing
She certainly looks the part.

Delete
http://www.superherohype.com/news/articles/167673-christopher-meloni-up-for-man-of-steel Speculation is Lex Luthor
Venneh
Weren't they going to leave Lex alone for a while?
JackFetch
Dear God I hope they leave Lex out of it. Hollywood thinks he's the only villain Superman has. I want someone Supes can punch and not turn to red mist.
Molly
Meloni would be a TERRIBLE Luthor. Let him play Steve Lombard or something.
KnightWing
I would agree with the "no Lex Luthor" argument ONLY if this were (A) another sequel to the Reeve/Routh films, and (B) if the version of Luthor we'd seen in the films prior was actually the real Lex, not an evil real estate agent. In a Superman reboot film, Lex needs to be there. He doesn't need to be the main villain (and he won't be; they've already said that it's General Zod), but he should be present in Metropolis. In the Birthright comics (which this seems to be heavily based on, sans General Zod), Lex was able to tinker with Kryptonian tech a bit. Maybe he's the one who lets Zod out of the Phantom Zone, in order to prove to the world that Kryptonians are evil and that Superman should not be trusted? SuaveStar
Lex has been in every Superman movie made. I'm tired of him. A Lex Luthor-esque character has been in every Superman film.
Molly
Here's my idea, don't ever show Luthor's face. Have Lexcorp signs, have people talking about the way Lexcorp has revolutionized Metropolis, created jobs and just turned the city around. Have Lois investigating some horrific pollution or dumping or something, and towards the end of the flick, have her realize it's Lexcorp. Leave everything else for the sequel. Make Lexcorp a presence, leave Luthor out until the sequel, and have him put together Metallo or Parasite or something there. Sort of a Moriarty in the RDJ Sherlock Holmes thing.
